A Soldier Returns From Home by Yoram Eshet-Alkalai

What does a man do when he discovers one day that nothing is left of his former life, and that he must learn to do everything from the start?
1973, the War between Israel and its Arab neighbors.

The world of Yoram Eshet-Alkalai, a young paratrooper and father of one child, is shattered to pieces when during a daring commando operation behind the Egyptian army lines, his brain is injured by a shell, leaving him paralyzed, blind, and unconscious.

Slowly, he discovers he has lost his ability to read and write, think clearly, and orient himself. His injury sends him on a survival journey to rebuild his lost consciousness and memory, and the necessity to learn from the beginning everything he ever knew.

Wrapped in poetic language, he presents in his book the horrors of the war and especially the long odyssey of rehabilitation he must go through, when he learns he has lost practically all his cognitive and motor skills.

This is the story of the antihero who leads us with exciting honesty into the process of recovery and confronting extreme trauma against all odds, thanks only to his unlimited love of life and willpower.

MY REVIEW:

A Soldier Returns Home by Yoram Eshet-Alkalai is a very emotional and inspirational story about a soldier that discovers that nothing is left and he must learn to start his life over again.

His head injury left him paralyzed, blind, and unconscious.

The injury caused him to not be able to read, write or think clearly. He begins the journey to reconstruct his memory and to learn everything all over again.

A Soldier Return Home is an amazing read and it'll make you never lost hope in yourself. I felt quite inspired and grateful for the life that I have now.

I highly recommend this book!
